A suspect arrested with 101 unauthorized fishing nets in Kanthale

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Police led to the arrest of a suspect with 101 unauthorized fishing nets, made ready for sale, in the township of Kanthale on 01 Feb 25.

The Navy continues to conduct regular operations to curb illegal fishing activities carried out using unauthorized fishing nets and destructive methods.

Accordingly, the search operation was conducted by SLN Dockyard in the Eastern Naval Command with the assistance of Kanthale Police. The arrest of the suspect was made after searching a retail store, where 101 unauthorized fishing nets (monofilament), made ready for sale, were recovered.

The suspect held in this operation is a resident of Deewaragama, Kanthale, aged 51. The suspect together with unauthorized fishing nets were handed over to the Kanthale Police for onward legal action.
