Two (02) suspects collared with 565 foreign fags in Trincomalee

Coordinated search operations conducted by the Navy, Police and Police Special Task Force (STF) on 21 Apr 25 in the Trincomalee Town and Cod Bay Fisheries Harbour led to the arrest of 02 suspects and seizure of 565 foreign cigarettes prepared for sale.

The separate search operations were carried out based on credible information received by the Eastern Naval Command. The search in the Trincomalee town area was conducted by the Naval Dockyard Trincomalee with the Trincomalee Harbour Police. The search operation at the Cod Bay Fisheries Harbour was mounted by SLNS Mahaweli in coordination with the Sardhapura Police STF. The efforts led to the seizure of 565 foreign cigarettes and the arrest of 02 suspects.

The suspects held in these operations were identified as residents of Trincomalee and Dondra, aged 56 and 63. The suspects together with foreign cigarettes were handed over to the Trincomalee Harbour Police and China Bay Police stations for onward legal action.
