Kerala cannabis valued over Rs. 129 million seized with 04 suspects in northern waters
A search operation conducted by the Navy in the Point Pedro sea area on 29 Apr 25 resulted in the seizure of about 322kg and 860g of Kerala cannabis. The operation also led to the apprehension of 04 suspects and 02 dinghies in connection to the smuggling racket.
On receipt of credible information by the Northern Naval Command, the search was mounted by SLNS Uththara, deploying naval craft. In the operation, naval personnel intercepted 02 suspicious dinghies and recovered approx. 322kg and 860g of Kerala cannabis being smuggled. Consequently, the consignment of Kerala cannabis, 02 dinghies and 04 suspects were taken into naval custody.
The gross street value of the stock of Kerala cannabis held in this operation is believed to exceed Rs. 129 million.
The suspects were identified as residents of Point Pedro, from 22 to 49 years of age. The suspects, together with Kerala cannabis and the dinghies were handed over to the Point Pedro Police for onward legal action.
