Three (03) suspects with smuggled stock of insecticides held in Kalpitiya

In a successful search operation, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 03 suspects along with a stock of smuggled insecticides, made ready for transportation, in the lagoon area of Anawasala, Kalpitiya on 02 May 25. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a lorry (01) set to be used in smuggling insecticides.

The Sri Lanka Navy is vigilantly monitoring and conducting operations to curb illegal activities taking place in its sea and coastal territories.

As an extension of these efforts, the search operation was mounted by SLNS Vijaya in the Northwestern Naval Command. In the course of the operation, the Navy intercepted the suspicious lorry at the Anawasala Lagoon area and recovered the stock of insecticides in 32 sacks. The operation also led to the apprehension of 03 suspects in connection to the incident.

The cache of insecticides, 03 suspects and the lorry were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office, Katunayake for onward legal action.
