Kerala cannabis valued over Rs. 87 million seized in Pesalai
A search operation conducted by the Navy in Pesalai beach area, Mannar on 11 May 25 resulted in the seizure of about 218kg and 800g of Kerala cannabis. The operation also led to the apprehension of a dinghy (01) in connection to the smuggling racket.
The search was mounted by SLNS Gajaba in North Central Naval Command. In the operation, naval personnel searched a suspicious dinghy in Pesalai beach area and recovered approx. 218kg and 800g of Kerala cannabis in 08 sacks. Consequently, the consignment of Kerala cannabis and the dinghy were taken into naval custody.
The gross street value of the stock of Kerala cannabis held in this operation is believed to exceed Rs. 87 million. Meanwhile, it is suspected that smugglers likely left behind the consignment due to the persistent presence of the Navy in the area.
Kerala cannabis and the dinghy will be handed over to the Pesalai Police for onward legal action.
