Navy seizes over 600kg of smuggled Kendu leaves in Kalpitiya

A search operation conducted by the Navy today (04 Jun 25) led to the seizure of a dinghy with about 600kg of smuggled Kendu leaves in the coastal waters of Alankuda, Kalpitiya.

The search operation was conducted by Emergency Task Force attached to SLNS Vijaya in the Northwestern Naval Command. Thus, naval personnel recovered 17 suspicious sacks in the dinghy, believed to have been left behind by smugglers due to heightened naval surveillance in the area. The sacks contained approx. 600kg of Kendu leaves and the Navy took hold of the consignment along with the dinghy.

The stock of Kendu leaves and the dinghy will be produce to the special unit for onward legal proceedings get underway.
