Navy takes hold of a large consignment of smuggled Kendu leaves in Puttalam

A search operation conducted by the Navy in the Akkarayanativu area, Puttalam on 12 Jul 25 led to the seizure of Kendu leaves weighing approx. 1330kg and 300g, suspected to be smuggled in.

The search operation was mounted by SLNS Thambapanni in the North Western Naval Command in the Akkarayanativu area. During the operation, naval personnel discovered 39 sacks containing approximately 1,330kg and 300g of Kendu leaves concealed in the shrubs.

The stock of Kendu leaves held in this operation was handed over to the Excise Office in Puttalam for onward legal action.
