Over 1307kg haul of Kendu leaves seized during separate operations

Coordinated search operations conducted by the Navy with the Excise Department in the beach and sea areas of Puttalam and Kalpitiya from 30 Jun to 10 Jul 25 led to the seizure of approx. 1307kg of Kendu leaves smuggled into the island. The operations also resulted in the apprehension of 02 suspects and 02 dinghies in connection to the illegal acts.

The operations were carried out in Paramunei of Wilpattu, Wellamundalam and Uchchamunai areas by the Northwestern Naval Command, partnered with the Excise Department, leading to the seizure of this haul of Kendu leaves together with the suspects and dinghies.

The apprehended suspects, Kendu leaves and dinghies were handed over to the Excise Special Unit in Puttalam for onward legal action.
