Two arrested in Anuradhapura with Kerala cannabis worth over Rs. 6 million

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) near the Salgadu Stadium in Anuradhapura on 04 Aug 25 led to the arrest of 02 suspects in possession of approx. 29kg and 901g of Kerala cannabis. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a car used to smuggle narcotics.

The operation was carried out by SLNS Thammanna of the North Central Naval Command, in coordination with the Talaimannar Police Narcotic Bureau. During the operation, a suspicious car was intercepted and searched, resulting in the discovery of approx. 29kg and 901g of Kerala cannabis in 15 parcels.

Meanwhile, the gross street value of Kerala cannabis held in this operation is believed to exceed Rs. 06 million.

The suspects, aged 19 and 33, were identified as residents of Point Pedro. The seized consignment of Kerala cannabis, the vehicle used for transportation and the two individuals were handed over to the Anuradhapura Police for further legal proceedings.
