Child pulled to safety in Verugal river rescue

In a swift and decisive action, a Sri Lanka Navy lifesaving team averted a tragedy by rescuing a seven-year-old girl from drowning in the Verugal Aru, Trincomalee on 05 Sep 2025.

The Navy had deployed a dedicated lifesaving team to ensure the safety of devotees attending the annual festival at the Murugan Hindu Temple in Verugal. Having spotted a child at the risk of drowning in the river where a group of devotees were bathing, the vigilant Navy lifesaving team swiftly intervened, pulling her from the watery grave.

After being rescued, the child, who is a resident of Pattananthare in Trincomalee, received immediate first aid from the Navy team. She was subsequently handed over to her relieved family in good health.
