Navy nabs 36 individuals in crackdown on illegal fishing practices

In separate operations conducted by the Navy with the assistance of Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources from 16 to 25 Sep 25, thirty-six (36) individuals involved in various illegal fishing activities were apprehended along with 13 dinghies and 02 canoes in multiple locations across the island.

In the coastal areas of Boulder Point, Norway Island, Alampil, Diamond Point, Vavunativu, Foul Point, Pigeon Island and Palaminmadu in Trincomalee and South Bar in Mannar, the Eastern and North Central Naval Commands nabbed these 16 individuals for their involvement in fishing with unauthorized nets, explosives and engagement in illegal diving and fishing practices without valid license

The suspects along with fishing boats and unauthorized gear held in these separate operations were handed over to the offices of Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Trincomalee, Kuchchaveli, Mullaitivu, Cod Bay, Muttur, Mannar and Batticaloa and Sampoor Police Station for legal proceedings.
