Two (02) persons nabbed for illegal transportation of sea cucumbers

The Sri Lanka Navy, in collaboration with the Police Special Task Force, carried out a search operation in Welanithurai, Jaffna, on 14 Oct 25. The operation led to the arrest of 02 suspects transporting 1,240 illegally harvested sea cucumbers without valid permits, along with the seizure of the cab used for the transport.

The Navy conducts regular operations in the coastal and sea areas of the island in order to suppress illegal fishing activities performed by people with scant regard towards responsible fishing practices.

The joint operation was carried out by SLNS Kanchadewa of the Northern Naval Command together with the Jaffna STF. Upon inspecting a suspicious cab in the area, the team discovered the consignment of sea cucumbers being transported in violation of fisheries regulations.
