Twenty-eight (28) individuals held for involvement in illegal fishing

In separate operations conducted by the Navy with the assistance of Police STF from 08 to 19 Oct 25, twenty-eight (28) individuals involved in various illegal fishing activities were apprehended along with 08 dinghies in multiple locations across the island.

In the coastal areas of Irakkandi, Nallur, Pigeon Island, Flag Staff Point, Nayaru, Verugalmohoththuwaram, Sudeikuda in Trincomalee and in the coastal vicinity of Point Pedro in Jaffna, the Northern and Eastern Naval Commands nabbed these 28 individuals for their involvement in fishing with unauthorized nets and explosives, and engagement in illegal fishing methods.

The suspects, along with fishing boats, held in these separate operations were handed over to the offices of Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Trincomalee, Ichchalampaththu, Kuchchaweli, Cod Bay, Jaffna, Point Pedro and Mullaitivu.
