SLNS Sindurala brings ashore 04 rescued fishermen of ‘Keshan Putha I’

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo coordinated the rescue of 04 fishermen from the multiday fishing trawler ‘Keshan Putha I’ in distress approximately 354 nautical miles (about 655km) off the coast of Hambantota. The rescued fishermen were safely brought to the Port of Hambantota this morning (31 Oct 25) by SLNS Sindurala and subsequently rushed to Hambantota General Hospital for medical attention with the assistance of Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Police.

Following a distress alert from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources regarding the unresponsive trawler, MRCC Colombo initiated the rescue mission. Meanwhile, an Indonesian fishing trawler managed to rescue the 04 fishermen from their capsized trawler and handed over them to the merchant vessel MV Graceful Star, for instant first aid and basic requirement with the coordination of MRCC .

The mission's success is testement to MRCC Colombo's prompt action, which mobilized search and rescue communities across Sri Lanka and adjacent regions. Simultaneously, the Navy deployed the SLNS Sindurala for the rescue of fishermen, upon receipt of directives from the Ministry of Defence.

In coordination with the MRCC Colombo, the Sri Lanka Navy remains on constant alert to provide relief to the maritime and fishing community. Their operations cover both Sri Lanka's designated search and rescue zone and neighboring regions.
