Navy nabs 03 suspects with smuggled Kendu leaves in Mannar

The Sri Lanka Navy seized a consignment of approximately 1211kg of Kendu leaves, a dinghy, and apprehended 03 suspects during a search operation conducted in the Olaithoduwai beach area, Mannar on 08 Nov 25.

As part of its continuous efforts to curb illegal activities via sea routes, the Navy carries out regular patrols and search operations around the island’s coastal areas.

During this operation, conducted by SLNS Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command in the beach area of Olaithoduwai in the dark hours, the consignment of Kendu leaves in a dinghy was seized along with the suspects.

The apprehended individuals have been identified as residents of Thoreadi and Janasavipura in Kalpitiya. The suspects, together with the dinghy and seized consignment, were handed over to the Mannar Excise Department Special Unit for onward legal proceedings.
