Navy takes hold of approx. 2250kg of Kendu leaves in separate operations

During search operations carried out by the Navy with the assistance of Police in the Pamunugama, Kepumgoda and Wellaweediya areas on 22 Nov 25, led to the seizure of Over. 2250kg of smuggled Kendu leaves and 04 dinghies.

As part of its continuous efforts to curb illegal activities via sea routes, the Navy carries out regular patrols and search operations around the island’s coastal areas.

In an operation mounted by SLNS Kelani of the Western Naval Command with the Pamunugama Police in Pamunugama, Kelaniya made way for the recovery of approx. 480kg of smuggled Kendu leaves from a dinghy (01).

In a separate operation carried out by SLNS Kelani in coordination with the Dungalpitiya and Pamunugama Police in Kepumgoda and Weellaweediya areas led to the seizure of another 1776kg of smuggled Kendu leaves from 03 dinghies.

The seized consignment of Kendu leaves and dinghies were handed over to the Dungalpitiya and Pamunugama Police stations for onward legal action.
