Navy's relief teams work in full swing in flood-hit provinces

In a swift and coordinated response to the adverse weather conditions affecting the island, the Sri Lanka Navy has deployed relief teams to provide critical assistance to affected communities. The deployment, which commenced on 22 Nov 25, spans the Southern, Eastern, Northwestern, and North Central provinces. The Navy relief teams continue to conduct their operations even today.

These dedicated naval teams are actively conducting ongoing disaster relief operations, working in close coordination with the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.

A key outcome of these operations was the safe evacuation of 911 people from life-threatening flood conditions. The evacuees, which included school children, were all successfully transported to safety by 27 November.

The Navy's relief operations extend beyond evacuations. Naval personnel are on the ground performing essential tasks such as removing trees felled by strong winds, rescuing people from flood-affected areas, and utilizing small craft to provide transportation for the daily needs of isolated communities.

As part of its proactive preparedness posture, the Sri Lanka Navy has placed additional relief teams on standby across all Naval Commands.
