Navy’s relief efforts deliver respite to 10,099 people affected by adverse weather
In light of the nationwide disaster caused by severe weather conditions, the Sri Lanka Navy has been carrying out extensive relief operations across the island since 22 Nov 25. As of 30 Nov 25, the Navy has assisted 10,099 individuals through its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts spanning all provinces, and these operations are still ongoing.
The Eastern Naval Command conducted flood relief operations in Trincomalee, Batticaloa, and Polonnaruwa districts, rescuing 195 people whose lives were at risk and safely transporting 1,632 others. Meanwhile, the Northwestern Naval Command carried out similar operations in Puttalam and Kurunegala districts, rescuing 580 people and ensuring the safe transport of 3,924 individuals.
The Western Naval Command conducted disaster relief operations across the Colombo, Kandy, Ratnapura, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Kegalle, and Gampaha districts, rescuing 303 individuals and ensuring the safe transport of 478 people. Meanwhile, the Southern Naval Command carried out relief efforts in the Galle district, rescuing 22 people and safely transporting 355 others.
The North Central Naval Command rescued 250 individuals and facilitated the safe transport of 903 people in the Anuradhapura and Vavuniya districts. Meanwhile, the Southeastern Naval Command deployed teams to the Ampara district, rescuing 1,444 residents whose lives were endangered by rising waters. The Northern Naval Command also ensured the safety of 13 people in distress in the Paranthan area.
