Navy takes hold of cannabis valued over Rs. 14 million

In a search operation on 07 Dec 25, the Sri Lanka Navy recovered a stock of foreign-origin cannabis in the Vellai beach area of the Delft Island, Jaffna.

The operation was conducted by SLNS Wasaba under the Northern Naval Command. During the search, naval personnel discovered and examined two (02) suspicious sacks concealed beneath the sand.

The sacks contained a total of approximately 62kg and 200g of cannabis. The estimated street value of the seized contraband is in excess of fourteen million rupees (Rs. 14 million).

Following standard procedure, the recovered cannabis stock was handed over to the Delft Police Station for further investigation and legal action.
