Coastal vigilance leads to seize cannabis valued over Rs. 1 million in Mannar

In a coordinated operation, the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police apprehended two (02) suspects in possession of approx. 06kg of foreign - origin cannabis in the Palliyamunai area of Mannar on 10 Dec 25.

The search operation was conducted by SLNS Gajaba of the North Central Naval Command, in coordination with the Mannar Divisional Police Crime Bureau. The raid led to the arrest of 02 suspects, aged 34 and 40 and identified as residents of Palliyamunai, along with the stock of foreign cannabis, made ready for distribution. The seized narcotics have an estimated gross street value exceeding one million rupees.

This operation underscores the Navy's intensified commitment to its coastal and inshore surveillance mandate, supporting “A Nation United” National Mission, to protect future generations from the danger of narcotics.

Meanwhile, the suspects and the stock of cannabis were handed over to the Mannar Police Station for subsequent legal proceedings.
