Naval operation leads to seizure of cannabis worth more than Rs. 31 million in Pudumathalan
During a search operation in the Pudumathalan area of Mullaitivu on 17 Dec 25, the navy seized a cab (01), taking hold of over 140kg of foreign-origin cannabis made ready for transportation.
Working alongside the “Nation United” National Mission, the navy has intensified narcotic raids across the island, remaining ever alert to drug smuggling bids, with firm determination to protect future generations from narcotics.
In continuation of these efforts, the operation was mounted by SLNS Gotabaya in the Eastern Naval Command. Upon search of the suspicious cab in the Pudumathalan area naval personnel took hold of this stock of cannabis (approx. 140kg and 460g) from 04 sacks in the vehicle.
The gross street value of the stock of cannabis is believed to exceed Rs. 31 million. The stash of cannabis was handed over to the Police STF in Mullaitivu for onward legal action.
