Thirteen (13) individuals held for engaging in illegal fishing

In separate operations conducted by the Navy from 06 to 11 Jan 26, thirteen (13) individuals involved in various illegal fishing activities were apprehended along with 04 dinghies in multiple locations across the island.

In the coastal areas of Kuchchaveli in Trincomalee, Narivilakulam in Mannar, Kayakkuli in Puttalam and Rathgama in Galle, the Eastern, North Central, Northwestern and Southern Naval Commands nabbed these 13 individuals for their involvement in fishing with unauthorized nets and explosives, engagement in illegal fishing methods and fishing practices without valid license.

The suspects along with fishing boats, explosives and unauthorized gear held in these separate operations were handed over to the Pulmudai Police Special Task Force, Mannar and Nanattan Fisheries Inspectors and Galle Coast Guard Department for onward legal action.
