Navy apprehends 03 suspects with haul of turtle flesh in Mannar

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 03 suspects along with over 26kg of turtle flesh during a search operation conducted in the Vankalai beach area of Mannar on 14 Apr 26.

The operation was carried out by SLNS Pussadeva, under the North Central Naval Command. While patrolling the Vankalai coastal belt, naval personnel inspected a suspicious dinghy and the search led to the recovery of the haul of turtle flesh within the dinghy. Consequently, the Navy took the 03 individuals, the stock of flesh and the dinghy into custody.

The apprehended suspects were identified as residents of the Mannar area, aged between 40 and 41. Following the apprehension, the suspects, together with the seized turtle flesh and the dinghy, were handed over to the Mannar Wildlife Office for further legal proceedings.
