Navy seizes over 1,030kg of smuggled dried turmeric in Kalpitiya

In a coastal search operation in the Thillayadi beach area of Kalpitiya, the Sri Lanka Navy recovered a massive consignment of smuggled dried turmeric weighing about 1,038kg, on 22 Apr 26.

The operation was carried out by a group of naval personnel from SLNS Vijaya of the Northwestern Naval Command. While patrolling the shoreline, they took hold of 26 suspicious sacks, containing this haul of dried turmeric, from the beach vicinity.

Following the seizure, the entire stock of turmeric was handed over to the Kalpitiya Police Station for further legal proceedings.
