Coordinated operation nabs smuggled turmeric cache in Puttalam

In a coordinated effort to dismantle smuggling networks, the Sri Lanka Navy, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) and the Puttalam Divisional Crime Detective Bureau, arrested a suspect (01) with a 994kg haul of smuggled dried turmeric on 29 Apr 26, in the Rathmalwatta area of Puttalam.

The operation was conducted by SLNS Thambapanni of the Northwestern Naval Command and the SLCG, working alongside Puttalam Divisional Crime Detective Bureau. During the search of a suspicious residence, the joint team discovered the contraband stuffed in 25 sacks. The swift action of the raiding party ensured the entire consignment was seized and the suspect was arrested.

The suspect was identified as a 33-year-old resident of Norochcholai. Subsequently, the suspect together with the stock of dried turmeric was handed over to the Puttalam Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
