Navy nabs 02 suspects in Kalpitiya for smuggling stock of Kendu leaves

The Sri Lanka Navy took hold of 622kg of Kendu leaves and apprehended 02 suspects during a search operation conducted in the Alankuda area of Kalpitiya on 10 May 26.

Acting on information received by SLNS Vijaya of the Northwestern Naval Command, naval personnel intercepted a suspicious dinghy operating in the Alankuda waters. A thorough inspection of the craft revealed 20 sacks stuffed with the contraband. Alongside the illegal cargo, the Navy took the dinghy and 02 individuals into custody.

The suspects were identified as residents of the Anawasala area in Kalpitiya, aged 29 and 30. The apprehended individuals, the dinghy, and the stock of Kendu leaves were handed over to the Puttalam Excise Department for further investigation and formal legal proceedings
