Forty - six (46) illegal immigrants held by Australian Border Force brought to the island

The Australian Border Force Cutter (ABFC) - Ocean Shield, carrying 46 illegal immigrants from Sri Lanka, arrived at the Port of Colombo this morning (05th August 2022). The group of illegal immigrants from Sri Lanka was held by the Australian Border Force on 21st July 2022 at the Australia’s maritime border, while they were attempting to illegally migrate to Australia via sea.

Navy clears blockages under several bridges in Galle, averting a flood threat

Sri Lanka Navy on 03rd August 2022 yet again pressed into action to clear blockages under Agaliya and Dodamgoda Bridges in Galle, as downstream of water at those locations has been blocked by tree remains and debris. Due to heavy rains received in the past couple of days, the water level in the Gin Ganga had risen, hampering the free flow of water under those bridges.

Navy recovers Kerala cannabis worth about Rs. 10 million of street value in northern waters

Sri Lanka Navy took hold of about 34kg and 38g (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis floating in the sea area between Kayts and Punguduthive Islands in Jaffna, during a patrol carried out in the sea area in the wee hours of today (04th August 2022).

A group of Indian fishermen stranded in Sri Lankan waters rescued by the Navy

Sri Lanka Navy rescued 06 distressed Indian fishermen drifted to the Sri Lankan waters north of Talaimannar, with their defunct trawler. The rescued Indian fishermen were provided humanitarian assistance and handed over to another Indian fishing trawler at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

Navy nabs 03 suspects with smuggled gold worth over Rs. 09 million in Pesalai

Sri Lanka Navy seized about 470 g of gold and a conch shell (Valampuri) attempted to be smuggled from the country, during a special operation carried out in seas off Kurusapadu in Pesalai, Mannar in the dark hours of 25th July 2022. The operation also led to the apprehension of 03 suspects in connection to the racket.
