The Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard seized 03 Indian fishing boats and apprehend 34 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during special operations conducted in the sea area north of Mannar on 25 and 26 Jan 25.

A combined search operation conducted by the Navy with the Police led to the arrest of 02 suspects along with 10 water gel sticks – a type of explosive, 10 non-electric detonators and 02 feet of safety fuse in Mannar and Shanthipuram on 24 Jan 25. The search also resulted in the seizure of a motorbike used for transporting water gel sticks.

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and the Divisional Crime Detective Bureau, Puttalam led to the arrest of a woman with about 2kg and 245g of Kerala cannabis in possession at Kottantivu, Sinnapadu in Puttalam today (25 Jan 25).

Separate search operations conducted by the Navy in the beach vicinity of Keeramundalama in Kalpitiya and Thorayadi sea area on 24 Jan 25 led to the seizure of about 342kg of cardamom and a dinghy loaded with about 1231kg of dried turmeric, attempted to be smuggled into the country. During these operations, the Navy also apprehended 02 suspects in connection to the act of smuggling.

As severe weather conditions threaten several areas in the island, the Sri Lanka Navy has deployed 04 relief teams as of today (24 Jan 25), to the flood-stricken areas of Padaviya, Buddhangala and Aluthparagama of Mahakanadarawa in the Anuradhapura district and Lahugala area of the Ampara district. These teams are actively engaged in relief operations, working tirelessly to provide necessary aid and support to affected communities.

As severe weather conditions threaten several areas in the island, the Sri Lanka Navy deployed 03 relief teams in Padaviya, Buddangala and Aluthparagama in Mahakanadarawa in the Anuradhapura district. These teams are actively engaged in flood relief operations in Buddhangala and Aluthparagama, working tirelessly to provide necessary aid and support to affected communities.

The Sri Lanka Navy on 20th January 2025 apprehended 02 persons for illegal transportation of sea cucumbers in the coastal vicinity of Venpuravinagar, Jaffna, without valid license. The search operation also led to the seizure of a dinghy and 130 sea cucumbers.

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the beach and sea areas of Keeramundalama in Uchchamunai, Kalpitiya in the dark hours of 20th January 2025 led to the seizure of 1289kg (wet weight) of smuggled Kendu leaves. During this operation, the Navy also apprehended 02 suspects as well as a dinghy, 02 traditional boats and 02 tractors used for this racket.

Search operations conducted by the Navy off the Mandaitivu Island and in the Pallekuda beach vicinity in Pooneryn, Jaffa with the assistance of Police led to the apprehension of 04 suspects with over 108kg of Kerala cannabis and a dinghy on 20th January 2025.
