The Sri Lanka Navy seized a local multi-day fishing trawler, on suspicion of smuggling drugs, during a special operation carried out on the high seas, west of Sri Lanka. The Navy deployed SLNS Suranimila for this special operation in which 06 suspects in connection to the illegal act were also held. The fishing trawler was escorted to Galle harbour, where a thorough inspection led to the discovery of about 66kg and 840g of heroin in 60 parcels, stuffed in 06 sacks. The seized narcotics have an estimated street value exceeding Rs 1650 million. Meanwhile, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera inspected the haul of narcotics at the Galle harbour today (15th November 2024).

A special operation mounted by the Sri Lanka Navy on the high seas, west of Sri Lanka led to the interception of a local multi-day fishing trawler and apprehension of 06 suspects today (14th November 2024), for smuggling narcotics. It is suspected that the trawler is carrying about 60kg of narcotics. The trawler along with the suspects and narcotics are being escorted ashore by the Navy for further investigation and onward legal action.

Special search operations conducted by the Navy in the beach vicinities of Vankalai and Silawathurai in Mannar on 13th November 2024 led to the apprehension of 05 suspects who had engaged in illegal night diving to harvest sea cucumbers. The operation also resulted in the seizure of 1055 illegally harvested sea cucumbers.

The Sri Lanka Navy seized 01 Indian fishing boat and apprehend 12 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted off Chundikulam, Jaffna today (12th November 2024).

The operation also resulted in the seizure of diving gear employed for this illegal act.

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 04 persons for their involvement in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets, during a search operation conducted off Kuchchaveli, Trincomalee on 05th November 2024. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a dinghy (01) used for this illegal activity.

The Navy took hold of over 1287 kg (wet weight) of smuggled Tendu leaves, during a search operation conducted in the beach areas of Keeri in Mannar today (04th November 2024).

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Police Narcotic Bureau, in Nagavilluwa, Puttalam on 01st November 2024 led to the apprehension of 02 suspects with 8g of Crystal Methamphetamine (ICE), 320 foreign cigarettes, 440 litres of Goda and 100 litres of illicit liquor.
