A special search operation conducted by the Navy off Pandaraweli, Mannar this morning (01st November 2024) led to the apprehension of 06 suspects who were engaging in illegal night diving to harvest sea cucumbers. The operation also resulted in the seizure of 01 dinghy and 227 illegally harvested sea cucumbers.

The Navy and Police arrested an individual (1) for the unlawful possession of about 1180 conch shells, during a search operation conducted in Vannimundalama area of Kalpitiya on 30th October 2024. The concealed stash of conch shells awaiting transport, without a license.

A special search operation conducted by the Navy off Venpuravinagar, Jaffna on 29th October 2024 led to the apprehension of 3 suspects with 291 illegally harvested sea cucumbers and seizure of a trawler.

The Sri Lanka Navy seized 01 Indian fishing boat and apprehend 12 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted off Point Pedro, Jaffna today (27th October 2024).

A search operation conducted by the Navy in the Wallikkadu beach area on the Nainativu Island, Jaffna on 24th October 2024 led to the recovery of about 2.065kg (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis.

The Navy seized over 2040kg (wet weight) of smuggled Tendu leaves, during separate operations conducted in the Puttalam lagoon as well as Palaviya and Norochcholai sea areas on 22nd and 23rd October 2024. One of the operations also resulted in the seizure of a lorry loaded with smuggled Tendu leaves.

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy led to the seizure of 02 Indian fishing boats and apprehension of 16 Indian fishermen, poaching in Sri Lankan waters. This special operation was conducted off the Kachchativu Island, Jaffna on 23rd October 2024.

The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ashore an injured fisherman, who was aboard a local multi day fishing trawler at sea south-east of Sri Lanka, about 179 nautical miles (331km) off Kirinda. The fisherman was brought to the Offshore Patrol Limit of Galle, on being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo. After being brought ashore today (23rd October 2024), he was rushed to the Teaching Hospital of Karapitiya, for medical attention by the Navy.

The Navy apprehended 02 persons who engaged in illegal night diving in the sea area of Sallikovil, Trincomalee, during a search operation conducted on 21st October 2024. The operation also led to the seizure of 01 boat, diving gear and fishing equipment used for this illegal activity.

Naval operations conducted between 10th and 20th October 2024, across the sea and coastal areas from Puttalam to Silawathura, resulted in the seizure of over 1,066 kg of smuggled Tendu leaves.
