Sri Lanka Navy in coordination with and Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is working in full swing as of now (22nd May 2021) to contain the fire onboard the MV ‘X-PRESS PEARL’ which confronted this unfortunate turn of event while at anchorage off Colombo harbour on 20th May.

Navy assists dousing of fire onboard container ship at anchorage off Colombo harbour
Sri Lanka Navy responding immediately to a distress call of fire erupted onboard a container ship ‘X-PRESS PEARL’ in the afternoon of 20th May 2021, promptly dispatched 02 Offshore Patrol Vessels, Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Sagara, Sindurala and a Fast Attack Craft to the scene of fire. Further 01 Tug from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA)is engaged in firefighting efforts as of now. The container ship was at anchorage about 9.5 nautical miles northwest of Colombo harbour as the incident was reported.

Navy relief teams continue to reach out to people affected by floods
As a result of flood emergencies following the inclement weather, 02 more Navy relief teams were sent out to flood prone areas in the Gampaha district today (15th May 2021) to rescue distressed communities and provide them with relief measures.

Navy thwarts illegal immigration attempt; 30 persons held in Chilaw
A special operation carried out by Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard in Samindugama on 13th and 14th May 2021 led to the apprehension of 30 persons whom were suspected to have attempted to illegally migrate to a foreign country by sea.

Navy relief teams rescue flood victims
Sri Lanka Navy has deployed 10 relief teams in flood prone areas in the Western and Southern Provinces to provide relief and rescue people from the risk of flooding due to heavy rains. Accordingly, Navy relief teams were able to rescue 06 flood victims with the overflowing of the Gin Ganga in the Udugama area, Galle on the night of 13th May 2021.
