The Navy took hold of about 325kg and 04g (wet weight) of Kendu leaves, attempted to be smuggled in, during a search operation conducted in the Negombo sea area on 07 May 25.

A search operation conducted by the Navy off the Eluvativu Island, Jaffna on 07 May 25 resulted in the seizure of about 301kg and 150g of Kerala cannabis. The operation also led to the apprehension of 03 suspects and a dinghy (01) in connection to the smuggling racket.

In a successful search operation, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 03 suspects along with a stock of smuggled insecticides, made ready for transportation, in the lagoon area of Anawasala, Kalpitiya on 02 May 25. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a lorry (01) set to be used in smuggling insecticides.

A search operation conducted by the Navy in the Point Pedro sea area on 29 Apr 25 resulted in the seizure of about 322kg and 860g of Kerala cannabis. The operation also led to the apprehension of 04 suspects and 02 dinghies in connection to the smuggling racket.

Separate search operations conducted by the Navy in Talaimannar, Kalpitiya and Negombo sea areas on 26 and 27 Apr 25 led to the seizure of about 643kg and 380g of smuggled Kendu leaves and a dinghy.

Two individuals enjoying a Jet Ski ride on Lake Gregory, Nuwara Eliya narrowly escaped drowning, after their watercraft capsized, as they were swiftly rescued by the Navy’s Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit (4RU).

Separate operations conducted by the Navy in Kalpitiya and in Padiyathalawa, with the assistance of Police on 23 and 24 Apr 25 led to the arrest of 02 suspects with about 751g of Kerala cannabis and 01kg and 95g of local cannabis made ready to sell, and seizure of a three-wheeler.

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Police on 22 Apr 25 at the Anuradhapura Junction of Trincomalee led to the arrest of a suspect and seizure of 600 foreign cigarettes prepared for sale.

In separate search operations conducted in Alankuda sea area of Kalpitiya and Thoduwawa in Puttalam on 23 Apr 25, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 04 suspects along with smuggled spices, clothing, smartphones, electrical appliances and pet birds. The operations also resulted in the seizure of a dinghy and a cab in connection to these illegal acts.

The Sri Lanka Navy intercepted an abandoned dinghy loaded with a haul of smuggled agrochemicals, Kendu leaves and spices during a search operation off Negombo on 22 Apr 25. Among the recovered items were; 1156 bottles and 4224 packets of agrochemicals, 67kg and 800g of Kendu leaves and 75kg and 300g of cardamom.
