Navy rescues woman fallen into Diyawanna Oya

A 59-year-old woman was rescued by a Sri Lanka Navy lifesaving team after she had fallen into the Diyawanna Oya in the Sandun Uyana area of Battaramulla today, 24 August 2026.

The incident occurred near Kimbulawala along the Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Road. A lifesaving team attached to the Navy’s Rapid Action Boat Squadron, deployed for security operations at the Diyawanna Oya, spotted the woman in the water and immediately launched a rescue operation. The woman, who was found struggling in the water, was safely brought ashore by the Navy team.

She was identified as a resident of Nugegoda and was subsequently taken to the Colombo National Hospital for further medical treatment.
