Navy seizes stock of smuggled pharmaceutical capsules in Puttalam lagoon
The Navy seized a dinghy with 750,000 smuggled pharmaceutical capsules during a search operation conducted in the Puttalam lagoon area on 18 August 2026.
The operation was mounted by personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya of the Northwestern Naval Command, based on information. During the search, the suspicious dinghy and the consignment of pharmaceutical capsules were found abandoned, due to naval surveillance in the area.
The seized dinghy and capsules were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau in Puttalam for onward legal action.
