Navy seizes smuggled dried ginger, cardamom husks and pesticides in Thalawila beach

The Navy seized a consignment of dried ginger, cardamom husks and bottles containing pesticide during a special search operation at Thalawila beach in Kalpitiya this morning, 20 August 2026.

The operation was conducted by naval personnel attached to SLNS Bharana of the Northwestern Naval Command.

During the search, naval personnel inspected 16 suspicious parcels that had been abandoned along the beach. The parcels contained 591kg of dried ginger, 75kg of cardamom husks and 300 bottles of pesticide, smuggled into the country.

The seized items were handed over to the Kalpitiya Police for further legal action.
