Suspect nabbed for illegal transfer of sea cucumbers in Kilinochchi

A person (1) was apprehended by the Navy, for illegal transfer of 380 sea cucumbers without a valid permit in the Kiranchi coastal area of Kilinochchi today, 24 August 2026. The operation also led to the seizure of a traditional boat (1) used for this illegal act.

Naval personnel from SLNS Buwaneka, under the North Central Naval Command, intercepted and inspected the suspicious craft approaching the Kiranchi coast. Accordingly, the 34-year-old resident of Kiranchi was found transferring the stock of sea cucumbers to shore without the required permit.

Subsequently, the suspect, the craft and 380 sea cucumbers were handed over to the Kilinochchi Fisheries Inspector for onward legal action.
