Navy seizes smuggled consignment of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics in Kalpitiya

The Sri Lanka Navy, in a joint search operation with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, seized a large consignment of smuggled goods, including pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, at the Sinnapadu beach area in Puttalam on 8 July 2026.

Naval personnel of SLNS Thambapanni, under the Northwestern Naval Command, conducted the search alongside Coast Guard personnel, recovering 15 suspicious parcels prepared for transport. Subsequent inspection of the packages revealed approximately 143,600 pharmaceutical capsules, 22,064 packets of shampoo and 3,816 tubes of mosquito repellent.

The seized goods were handed over to the Udappuwa Police for onward legal proceedings.
