Navy deploys relief teams for community affected by adverse weather

The Sri Lanka Navy has kept 171 disaster relief teams on standby and deployed 17 units across 5 provinces to assist communities affected by severe weather.

As of 27 October 2026, relief teams are in the Sabaragamuwa, Northwestern, Western, Southern and Eastern provinces to provide immediate assistance.

Under the Western Naval Command, 3 teams have been deployed in Ratnapura, 2 in Yatiyantota, and 1 team each in Meethotamulla, Nawalapitiya, Gampola and Mahiyanganaya.

The Northwestern Naval Command has deployed 2 teams in Puttalam and 1 team each in Nikaweratiya, Kurunegala and Neelabemma.

In addition, the Southern Naval Command has deployed 1 team in Thawalama, while the Eastern Naval Command has kept 2 teams ready in Diganpathana for immediate dispatch if required.
