Navy nabs 3 for transferring illegally harvested sea cucumbers

The Navy apprehended 3 persons and seized a boat transferring 673 illegally harvested sea cucumbers during a search operation in the Kudarappu coastal area of Jaffna this morning, 5 September 2026.

The search was conducted by naval personnel attached to the Naval Deployment Veththalakerni under the Northern Naval Command. During the search, the Navy intercepted and inspected a suspicious boat in the Kudarappu coastal area. The occupants were found transferring a consignment of sea cucumbers (673) harvested by illegal night diving activities.

The 3 suspects, aged between 51 and 56, were identified as residents of the Mannar area. The suspects, along with sea cucumbers, the boat and fishing equipment, were handed over to the Jaffna Fisheries Inspector for further legal action.
