Stock of fish caught using explosives seized in Mullaitivu

A coordinated operation by the Sri Lanka Navy with the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources led to the seizure of a stock of fish caught using explosives, in Mullaitivu today, 7 September 2026.

The search was conducted by naval personnel from SLNS Gotabaya of the Eastern Naval Command, together with officers from the Mullaitivu Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department. During this operation, the team searched a suspicious fish collecting center in the Puttumatalan beach area and seized over 3,200kg of fish illegally caught using explosives.

The stock of fish and a 38 year old woman from Pudukuduiruppu, held in connection to the incident, were handed over to the Mullaitivu Office of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for further legal action.
