Holiday Bungalows Dedicated for Naval Personnel Wounded in Action Opened in Diyathalawa
 

Two Holiday Bungalows dedicated for naval personnel wounded in action were declared open by the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne on the invitation of the President Sri Lanka Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Madam Yamuna Wijegunaratne in Diyathalawa on Saturday (30th July).

These holiday bungalows are the only such dedicated facility available in the Navy for officers and sailors who sustained injuries during the conflict. Identifying the necessity of constructing a dedicated holiday bungalows for naval personnel who were wounded in action, President Sri Lanka Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Madam Yamuna Wijegunaratne initiated the construction of these holiday bungalows.

The construction was completed within a short period of time with the funds generated by the SLN Seva Vanitha Unit at a cost of over Rs. 21 million. The holiday bungalows comprise of two separate units which can be used by officers and sailors, respectively.

These holiday bungalows are designed with facilities that could accommodate differently abled naval personnel as there was no such holiday bungalow facility within the Navy until the opening of this facility. There are over 380 retired and nearly 95 serving naval personnel who were wounded in action in the Navy. These naval personnel will be immensely benefited from this new holiday bungalow facility situated in the beautiful city of Diyathalawa.

The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, The Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva, spouses of senior naval officers, members of the SLN Seva Vanitha Unit were also present at the opening ceremony.
