New President takes over Navy Seva Vanitha Unit
 

Mrs. Thiruni Sinniah officially assumed duties as the new President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU) today (13 September 2017) at a simple ceremony held at the Navy Headquarters. The occasion was attended by senior members, staff members of the NSVU and several lady officers.

The presidency of the NSVU felt vacant with the appointment of Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah as the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. Accordingly, Mrs. Sinniah took over the duties according to traditions on an auspicious note. To coincide with the event, a number of new members also received the membership of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit today.

Mrs. Thiruni Sinniah is a product of the Girls’ High School, Kandy, where she excelled in academics as well as sports; she was the Head Prefect in her final year. She started her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Peradeniya, and later transferred to the University of Adelaide in Australia, from where she graduated. She trained further as a field biologist and obtained a Master of Science degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Peradeniya. She spent some time as a research scientist in Sri Lanka parallel to her career as a high school teacher. Mrs. Sinniah is currently a dedicated Biology and Mathematics teacher with 19 years of experience, and has served as Head of Science at the Colombo International School, Kandy. She is a wildlife enthusiast and a member of several wildlife and nature conservation groups both in Sri Lanka and Australia.
