Southern Naval Command crowns Inter-command Squash Champions-2022

The Inter-command Squash Championship was held at the squash court in the Eastern Naval Command from 14th to 17th September 2022. As the Southern Naval Command won the title of tournament, the Afloat Command and North Central Naval Command emerged as joint-runners-up.

In novice men’s the championship was won by Lieutenant (E) WMMW Bandara from the Northern Naval Command. Its runner-up position was secured by Lieutenant Commander (E) AGS Silva. The novice women’s ended giving the title to Woman Recruit HMSOB Herath from the Northern Naval Command and second position to Woman Recruit RMC Madumali who was also from the same Naval Command. The championship of over 35 men's category went to Petty Officer (Physical Training Instructor) JPI Ishara of the Southern Naval Command and the event's runner-up position was secured by Petty Officer (Physical Training Instructor) WAD Priyadarshana who represented the same Naval Command.

Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Pradeep Rathnayake from the North Central Naval Command won the championship of over 40 men’s event and its runner-up slot was secured by Fleet Chief Petty Officer AAC Kumara from the Afloat Command. In open men’s, Leading Seaman (Physical Training Instructor) MHI Buddhika from the Southern Naval Command clinched the championship leaving the runner-up position to Leading Seaman (Physical Training Instructor) HMA Priyantha from the same Naval Command.

The prize awarding of Inter-command Squash Champions-2022 was held on 17th September under the patronage of Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne. The Chairman of Navy Squash Pool, Captain Manoj Leelarathne, senior officers and sailors from the Eastern Naval Command were also present on this occasion.
