Navy players makes country proud in 08th Carrom World Championship-2022

The 08th Carrom World Championship -2022, organized by International Carrom Federation (ICF), was held in Langkawi, Malaysia from 03rd to 07th October. Representing Sri Lanka at the world stage, Navy’s Able Seaman Nishantha Fernando and Woman Able Seaman Joseph Roshita won silver and bronze medals respectively.

Carrom players from 18 countries participated in the 08th Carrom World Championship 2022 where Sri Lanka men’s team won the runner-up position. Accordingly, Able Seaman Nishantha Fernando who was a member of the team won a silver medal. Similarly, Sri Lanka men’s team also became second runner-up in men’s doubles in which Able Seaman Nishantha Fernando won a bronze medal.

As a significant feature of the tournament, Able Seaman Nishantha Fernando won the trophy for the ‘Highest Number of Slams’ (11 slams), bringing much recognition to the Navy and the country in particular.

Besides, Sri Lanka women’s team also became the second runner up in the 08th Carrom World Championship 2022. Thus, Sri Lanka Navy’s representation - Woman Able Seaman Joseph Roshita won a bronze medal.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne has paid special attention and made significant effort to uplift sports infrastructure and welfare of Navy athletes in recent years. As a result of such amenities, the Navy athletes have been able to make a number of achievements in sporting events.
