Navy becomes overall open men's runner-up in 06th National Canoe Sprint Championship – 2022

Sri Lanka Navy men’s canoe sprint team won the runner-up title in the 06th National Canoe Sprint Championship – 2022 held on 16th and 17thDecember 2022 at Diyawanna Lake. The tournament was held under the patronage of the President of National Association for Canoeing and Kayaking in Sri Lanka, Mr Rohan Preethiwiraj.

Exhibiting spirited performance in the tournament, Petty Officer AKSS Jayawardana (bronze medal in open men’s K-01 500m), Able Seaman RDK Ishan (silver medals in open men’s C-01 200m and open men’s C-04 200m), Able Seaman HMAD Gunathilake ( gold medals in open men’s K-01 200m and open men’s K-01 500m), Able Seaman RMR Rathnayake (bronze medals in open men’s C-01 100m and open men’s 500m and Able Seaman BMCD Basnayake (bronze medal in open men’s C-01 200m) brought credit to the Navy.

In addition, Petty Officer WMN Bandara (silver medal in C-04 200m), Petty Officer WU Sankalpa (bronze medal in C-04 500m), Leading Seaman (Marine) NGCC Ariyapala (silver and bronze medals in C -01 500m and C-04 200m), Ordinary Seaman MPMA Kumara (bronze medal in C-01 500m) and Ordinary Seaman RDRM Weerasooriya (bronze medal in C-04 200m) put on some excellent performances for the Navy.

The Secretary of National Association for Canoeing and Kayaking in Sri Lanka, Rear Admiral (Retd) Ajith Samarasinghe and a group of ace canoe sprinters from the Army, Air Force and renowned sports clubs in the country were also present on this occasion.
