Training Command wins Inter Command Handball Championship

The Inter Command Handball Championship was held from 18th to 21st May 2023 at the sports ground of SLNS Pandukabhaya in the North Central Naval Command. In a thrilling display of skill and athleticism, the Training Command emerged victorious in the tournament, securing the prestigious title.

Representing all naval commands, 09 men’s and 06 women’s teams took part in the tournament, creating an electrifying atmosphere within the arena. Showcasing their remarkable agility, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament the men’s and women’s titles were clinched by the Training Command. Meanwhile, the Northern Naval Command and the Western Naval Command secured the women’s and men’s runner up titles respectively.

Accordingly, Woman Able Physical Training Instructor SMSP Samaraweera of the Training Command (Best Goalkeeper – Women), Able Seaman APV Viraj of the Western Naval Command (Best Goalkeeper – Men), Woman Leading Seaman LAL Herath of the Training Command (Best Attacker-Women), Petty Officer SML Priyantha of the Western Naval Command (Best Attacker - Men), Leading Physical Training Instructor KA Kumara of the Training Command (Best Player – Men) and Woman Leading Communicator GPHL Gamage of the Training Command (Best Player – Women) won awards for their exceptional performance.

The prize awarding of the tournament was held under the patronage of Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Janaka Nissanka. The Chairman of Sri Lanka Navy Handball Pool, Lieutenant Commander MS Nallawansha and a group of officers and sailors were also present on this occasion.
