Navy becomes runners-up in men’s and women’s half marathon at 12th Defence Services Games

The Navy athletes showcased their exceptional running skills, securing the runner-up positions in both the men's and women's half marathon at the 12th Defence Services Games. The athletics events of 12th Defence Services Games were held on 24th June 2023 at the Air Force grounds in Katunayake.

The road runners commenced the event at the Malima Club House, Uswetakeiyawa and sprinted across the finish line at the same location, to complete the event consisting about 21km. For the Navy, Leading Seaman WMS Kumara, Leading Seaman RDNS Karunarathna, Leading Engineering Mechanic RAPD Arunasiri, Able Seaman WWK Weerasinghe and Able Seaman WGT Madusanka won silver medals.

In the women’s half marathon, Woman Leading Seaman MSPM Perera, Woman Able Seaman MANK Fernando, Woman Able Seaman V Krishanthani, Woman Ordinary Seaman A Anusha and Woman Ordinary Seaman DCM De Silva won silver medals.

The Chairman of Sri Lanka Navy Athletics Pool, Commodore Chandana Bopagoda, officers and other ranks from the tri-services were also present at this event.
