Inter Command Cycling Championship - 2023 successfully concludes at SLNS Thambapanni

The Inter Command Cycling Championship - 2023 concluded with immense success at SLNS Thambapanni on 30th August. The thrilling event saw intense competition among cyclists from various commands, where the men’s championship was secured by the Eastern Naval Command and the women’s championship was won by the Training Command. The Deputy Area Commander of Northwestern Naval Area, Commodore Thushara Udugama graced the closing ceremony of Inter Command Cycling Championship as the Chief Guest.

Staring from SLNS Thambapanni the cyclists took on a challenging distance of 40 kilometers towards Kurunegala and returned to the starting point to finish the race. The event saw the participation of 51 male cyclists and 13 female cyclists, exhibiting remarkable strength and speed. In the men’s category Leading Seaman PLDS Kumara (1st) from the Eastern Naval Command, Leading Seaman (Diver) JDPP Jayasinghe (2nd) from the Eastern Naval Command and Leading Engineering Mechanic WDM Kumara (3rd) from the Eastern Naval Command secured the top three places.

In the same vein, Women Able Seaman (Physical Training Instructor) GDD Sakunthala (1st) from the Eastern Naval Command, Women Ordinary Seaman (Physical Training Instructor) EMALGB Edirisinghe (2nd) from the Southern Naval Command and Sub Lieutenant ASS Wijesiri (3rd) from the Training Command won major honours in women’s category.

The Chairman of Navy Cycling Pool, Commodore Anuruddha Karunathilake and a group of officers and sailors representing the Cycling Pool and Naval Commands were also present on this occasion.
