Inter-Command Swimming and Water Polo Championship concludes at SLNS Gemunu

Sri Lanka Navy Inter-Command Swimming and Water Polo Championship was held at the swimming pool of SLNS Gemunu from 02nd to 04th November 2023. In a thrilling display of aquatic prowess, the Northern Naval Command emerged triumphant in the men's swimming championship. Meanwhile, the Training Command demonstrated their unparalleled skill in the women's swimming championship. The Eastern and Western Naval Commands dominated the water polo arena, claiming the men's and women’s championships respectively, with a display of tactical brilliance.

In a highly competitive tournament, competed by talented Navy swimming athletes, Lieutenant HU Edirisinghe, from the Afloat Command, emerged as the best swimmer novice among women. On the men's side, Petty Officer DMAV Leelaratne of the Northwestern Naval Command showcased exceptional prowess, clinching the title of best swimmer novice Meanwhile, Chief Petty Officer HGRS Gamage, representing the Western Naval Command earned the distinguished title of the tournament's best swimmer veteran.

The men's championship of the 2 km sea swimming competition, hosted at the picturesque Trincomalee Nicholson Cove beach, proved to be a thrilling spectacle. The Eastern Naval Command showcased their exceptional prowess, claiming the prestigious title and the Training Command secured the well-deserved runner-up position. In the women's category, the Training Command claimed the championship title and the Eastern Naval Command, secured the runner-up spot, showing its competitive spirit.

Leading Diver HMDD Bandara, from the Eastern Naval Command, clinched the title of best awimmwe men in the 2 km sea swimming competition. Midshipman KNT Perera and Midshipman HRL Perera of the Training Command, Woman Physical Training Instructor DRDSK Dasanayake of the Western Naval Command and Woman Physical Training Instructor GDD Sakunthala of the Training Command also became joint champions.

Also, Petty Officer PM Tharanga who scored a total of 19 goals in the water polo tournament was awarded as the best player (men’s) and Woman Leading Seaman MHN Herath who scored a total of 11 goals in the tournament adjudged as the best player (women’s). Accordingly, the men's championship of the water polo tournament was won by the Eastern Naval Command and the runner-up position was secured by the Training Command. Moreover, the women's championship of the tournament was won by the Western Naval Command, and the runner-up slot was secured by the Eastern Naval Command.
