Navy Inter Command Athletic Championship 2024 concludes in Trincomalee

The Sri Lanka Navy's Inter Command Athletic Championship 2024 took place at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on 1st and 2nd June 2024. Demonstrating exceptional athletic prowess, the Training Command secured the title of overall men's champions, while the Southern Naval Command emerged victorious in the women's category. The closing ceremony was graced by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, as the Chief Guest.

Navy athletes representing all Naval Commands put their skills to the test in track and field events over the two days of competition. In the 2024 edition of Inter Command Athletic Championship the men’s and women’s runners up titles were secured by the Eastern Naval Command and the Training Command respectively.

At the competition, Lieutenant NGY Dilan from the Afloat Command distinguished himself by winning both the Best Sportsman and Best Sportsman in Field Events trophies. Meanwhile, Leading Seaman WMDM Wasala from the Training Command earned the accolade for Best Sportsman in Track Events. The Southern Naval Command excelled in the awards, with Woman Recruit WANA Weerapperuma earning the title of Best Sportswoman. She also secured the award for Best Sportswoman in Field Events. Additionally, Woman Recruit GPS Umayangani from the same command was recognized as the Best Sportswoman in Track Events.

The Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet (FOCNF), Rear Admiral Chandima Silva, Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Rohan Joseph and a group of officers and sailors were also present on this occasion.
